The Promised Symbolic Fencing Pix

As promised, here are the pictures of the rope fence with floats as it appeared last weekend during my shift.

The long view and a closeup. And yes, I do know that nobody else blogs about symbolic fencing this much. :-)

And while I'm at it, here is how the boardwalk at Lot 1, loaded with birders, looked last weekend -- before the storm. Those steps to the beach? Not there anymore. So here's the Before picture. I'll try to provide an After picture on Saturday.

Do you have dunes there? Or is this high tide?

Surprised to see the fencing actually in the water!

The tide was coming in when I took the picture. At low tide only the very last float is in the water. The boundary of the closed beach area extends to the mean low water mark to keep joggers off the closed area.

Yes, we have dunes -- or we did last week. This week maybe not. I haven't seen the beach yet since the storm but judging from the reports of a few intrepid birders the high tide on Tuesday -- or was it Wednesday -- breached the dunes.

My brother had a couple thousand dollars worth of damage to his house on Salisbury Beach (across the Merrimack River from PI) and the dune between the beach and his house is gone. Since the beach on PI is normally narrower and more directly exposed to the northeast than where he is, I expect there's more damage to dunes and vegetation on PI.
